For the Sick & Healing

Duas when visiting the sick, for self-healing, and Islamic ruqyah.

1. Dua When Visiting the Sick (recite 7×)

Abu Dawud, Tirmidhi

As'alullaha al-'azima rabbal-'arshil-'azimi an yashfiyak

Translation

I ask Allah, the Almighty, Lord of the Mighty Throne, to cure you.

💡

Recite 7 times when visiting a sick person. The Prophet ﷺ said: if their time has not come, Allah will cure them and remove their illness. An authenticated, powerful dua for visiting any sick person.

2. Dua for Removing Illness

Bukhari & Muslim

Allahumma rabban-nas, adhhibil-ba's, ishfihi wa antash-shafi, la shifa'a illa shifa'uk, shifa'an la yughadiru saqama

Translation

O Allah, Lord of mankind, remove the illness, heal him — You are the Healer. There is no cure except Your cure — a cure that leaves no illness.

💡

The Prophet ﷺ recited this when visiting the sick and placed his right hand on them. Change "ishfihi" (him) to "ishfini" (me) when making dua for yourself. Place your right hand on the painful area while reciting.

3. Dua When You Are Ill (for yourself)

Muslim

Bismillahi arqik, min kulli shay'in yu'dhik, min sharri kulli nafsin aw 'aynin hasidin, Allahu yashfik, bismillahi arqik

Translation

In the name of Allah I perform ruqyah for you, from everything that harms you, from the evil of every soul or envious eye. May Allah heal you. In the name of Allah I perform ruqyah for you.

💡

Recite 3 times while passing your right hand over the painful area. For self-ruqyah: recite Al-Fatihah, Ayat al-Kursi, Al-Ikhlas, Al-Falaq and An-Nas into your cupped hands, blow into them, and wipe over your body — repeat 3 times (Bukhari).
