History of Jamia Masjid Srinagar
The Jamia Masjid of Srinagar was founded in 1402 by Sultan Sikandar and expanded under his son Sultan Zain-ul-Abidin. Built in a uniquely Kashmiri style using deodar cedar wood, it has been destroyed and rebuilt four times. Its 370 wooden pillars, each carved from a single cedar trunk, and its distinctive tiered spire are iconic features of Kashmiri mosque architecture. The mosque is the venue for major Islamic occasions in Kashmir.
