The Wallajah Mosque, popularly known as the 'Big Mosque', was built in 1795 by Muhammad Ali Khan Wallajah, the Nawab of the Carnatic. Its two minarets rise 30 metres above the Triplicane area of Chennai and the mosque remains one of the most important for Chennai's Tamil Muslim community.
