History of Rani Sipri Mosque (Masjid-e-Nagina)
Rani Sipri Mosque was built in 1514 by Queen Sipri (also written as Rani Sabrai), a wife of Sultan Mahmud Begada of the Gujarat Sultanate. According to legend, she built it as an act of penance after an argument with the Sultan. The mosque is nicknamed 'Masjid-e-Nagina' (Jewel of Mosques) for the beauty and delicacy of its carved stonework. Its slender minarets and intricate facade are considered masterworks of late Gujarat Sultanate architecture.
