Jame Masjid (Leicester)

Jame Masjid (also known as Jame Mosque and Jame'ah Uloom ul Qur'an) is one of Leicester's long-established mosques, at 51 Asfordby Street in the city's Highfields / Spinney Hill area, the historic heart of Leicester's Muslim community. According to the mosque it was established in 1977 (1397 AH) under the patronage of Shaykh Maulana Adam Sahib, who also founded its associated educational institutions.

The mosque grew out of a former industrial building adapted for worship, and following planning approval the site was substantially redeveloped, with the enlarged purpose-built mosque completed around 2010 to serve the growing congregation. It follows the Sunni Deobandi tradition and is closely associated with Leicester's Gujarati Muslim community, with a reported capacity of around 3,200.

Alongside the daily prayers and Friday Jummah, Jame Masjid is the base of a substantial educational network operating as Jameah Uloom ul Qur'an. Beginning in 1977 with a single Hifz class of 11 students, it has grown to include a full-time Darul Uloom, Hifz classes, evening Maktab/madrasah classes, and adult courses, with separate boys' and girls' institutions nearby. The mosque also provides Nikah, funeral and bereavement services, and is a registered charity (the Jame Trust, no. 1125931).
