About Great Mosque of Sfax

The Great Mosque of Sfax was built in 849 CE by Ibrahim II ibn Ahmad of the Aghlabid dynasty. It is one of the finest examples of early Islamic architecture in Tunisia, featuring a magnificent nine-naved prayer hall, a distinctive ribbed dome, and an intricately decorated interior. The mosque underwent significant extensions in the 10th century under Fatimid rule and remains the spiritual centre of the Sfax medina.
