Eid al-Adha Prayer Guide
Eid al-Adha prayer (Salat al-Eid) is performed in congregation after sunrise. It is Wajib (obligatory) in the Hanafi school and Sunnah Mu'akkadah in other schools.
- Performed approximately 15–20 minutes after sunrise — not at sunrise itself
- No Adhan or Iqamah for Eid prayer
- 12 extra Takbeers — 7 in the first Rak'ah (before Qira'ah), 5 in the second (before Qira'ah)
- Followed by 2 Khutbahs (sermons) after the prayer
- Make Ghusl, wear your best clean clothes, use Itar (perfume for men)
- Unlike Eid al-Fitr, eat after the Eid al-Adha prayer (not before)
- Recite the Takbeer of Tashreeq: "Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, La ilaha illallah, Allahu Akbar, Allahu Akbar, walillahil hamd"
🤲 Fasting on Yawm Arafah
Fasting on 9 Dhu al-Hijjah (Yawm Arafah) is a highly recommended Sunnah for those not performing Hajj. It is one of the greatest acts of worship in the year and expiates two years of minor sins.
The 10 Blessed Days of Dhu al-Hijjah
- Increase Dhikr — Takbeer, Tahmeed (Alhamdulillah), Tahleel (La ilaha illallah), Tasbeeh
- Fast the first nine days (especially Yawm Arafah)
- Give Sadaqah generously
- Increase Quran recitation
- Seek forgiveness (Istighfar) and make Du'a
- Perform voluntary Nafl prayers
